Congenital Peyronie's Disease
Congenital Peyronie's Disease more commonly known as Congenital Penile Curvature is a condition from birth, though it is extremely rare and affects less than 1% of men.
It is normally noticed around the time of puberty and in young adults and is caused by an uneven development of the two chambers that form within the penis. It is different to Peyronie's disease in that there is no build-up of fibrous plaque within the penis.

Understanding Congenital Penile Curvature
Men with Congenital Penile Curvature are at no greater risk of Erectile Dysfunction than other men. They will not have a hard lump or tough skin on any side of their penis.
With Congenital Peyronie's Disease, there is a greater likelihood that the penis will bend downwards, whereas the majority of men with Peyronie's disease experience an upward bend. This is not always the case and both conditions can have different deformities.
A patient with Congenital Penile Curvature has an equal chance of developing Peyronie's disease as any other man. However, the curvature should remain the same. if they feel that the curvature or deformity has worsened, this can be assessed at our clinic through a diagnostic Ultrasound.
Congenital Penile Curvature Surgery
If there is no showing of fibrous plaque, then focussed shockwave therapy cannot help this condition and the only option for the patient is surgery, which is outlined in Peyronie's disease treatment options.
Most men with Peyronie's disease display some symptoms of erectile dysfunction. With Congenital Penile Curvature there is no correlation and no greater vascular risk.
